“I travel because I want to have stories to tell to my kids, my grandkids, and ultimately, God. I want to show Him that I didn’t waste a single second of this life I was given.”
WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE YOU HAVE TRAVELED?
Spain. I studied abroad in Jaén, Spain for an entire academic year during my junior year at San Diego State. There has not been a year of my life where I have learned more about myself, my beliefs, other people, other cultures, and other places. While I studied abroad, I traveled to 12 other European countries. Every country is unique, but the Spanish people and culture stole my heart. They are the most present people I have ever met. They live life slowly. I learned a lot from living with a Spanish host family. My favorite city in Spain? Barcelona. Art, beaches, history. What more could you ask for?
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE?
Just one?! I have more than a few! I’ll go with, “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” – Oscar Wilde.
I reserve the right to change this regularly since it is my blog. 😉
WHERE ARE YOU TRAVELING NEXT?
Italy in August of 2017. I cannot be more excited! I am working on getting super fit now so I can eat unhealthy amounts of pizza, pasta, and gelato while I am there.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES FROM TRAVELING? TELL A STORY.
While I was studying abroad in Spain, a group of girls from my program and I took a weekend trip to Seville. This trip happened early on in our study abroad program. Important disclaimer: our Spanish was NOT GOOD. After we had toured the Seville Cathedral, we were starving and went to grab a bite to eat nearby. There were several walk-up restaurants with small patios, so we all went our separate ways and grabbed food from the various vendors. However, we didn’t realize that the restaurants did not share the small patios. One of my friends purchased a slice of pizza then came over to sit with us in front of the gyro stand. The lady working at the gyro restaurant came over and scolded our friend in Spanish for a few minutes. She did not want her eating pizza at her stand’s table. After she had stopped yelling, our friend responded, “Necesitas tequila” which means you need tequila in Spanish. What she intended to say was, “Necesitas tranquila” which she thought meant you need to relax. Like I said, our Spanish needed some major improvement. The owner was so upset that she shut down her stand for the rest of the day. If there was one phrase our friend never messed up again, it was that one. Word to the wise, when someone is upset, it is probably best to not tell them that they need tequila.
WHY DO YOU TRAVEL?
I travel because I want to have stories to tell to my kids, my grandkids, and, ultimately, God. I want to show Him that I didn’t waste a single second of this life I was given.
WHAT DO YOU WANT MOST IN LIFE?
I want to travel the world with people I love. I want to get married to the man of my dreams. I want to accomplish all of the items on my bucket list. I want to live an epic story, and I want to invite others on the journey with me.
